2 Graduate from McDonald's Hamburger University

by Admin | Aug 23, 2019 | Chicago, Illinois |

PRESS RELEASE – McDonald’s of Guam and Saipan continues its commitment to the training and development of its people. In August 2019, Majellyn Calceta (Training Coordinator for McDonald’s of Guam & Saipan) and Mable Ayuyu Glenn (Executive Assistant to the President) were selected to attend a 5 day course focused on “Facilitating Exceptional Training” at McDonald’s Hamburger University (MHU) in Chicago, Illinois. The class ran from August 19 to August 23 and included students from various parts of the world including Canada, the Bahamas and the United States. Calceta and Glenn were the only students that represented Guam and the Northern Marianas Islands. The course included a combination of trainer discussions and activities focused on delivering effective training. McDonald’s of Guam and Saipan Owner/Operators Jose and Marcia Ayuyu were excited to have provided this opportunity and look forward to delivering a more effective training for their organization. The Ayuyu’s currently operate 2 McDonald’s restaurants on Saipan and 6 McDonald’s restaurants on Guam. Calceta said her experience at MHU was memorable because of all the learning she obtained and how it was conveyed.

“I learned that effectively delivering the content to the audience (whether crew, crew trainers, and even top management) will help them achieve their goals in the restaurants and ultimately grow the business.” She also described the course as informative and meaningful compared to the many classes, workshops and trainings she’s attended in the past. Currently, Calceta leads the Training Department and conducts training classes year-round for the Ayuyu organization.

Reflecting on her experience at MHU, Glenn says, “it was an amazing educational experience that takes a more interactive approach at learning. It was fun, challenging and exciting all in one! It also made me look at training in a whole new light. I learned important best bets on how to train more effectively and how to measure that success in training.” Both Calceta and Glenn agree that they are walking away from the class with more knowledge to not only grow the business, but also to grow as an individual. “I am grateful to Mr. Joe Ayuyu, President/CEO of JCA, Guam LLC dba McDonald's of Guam for trusting and investing in me. This trip helped me grow as individual and of course to be a better and effective trainer/facilitator for the organization. I will stay committed, driven, and positive to all that I do for our organization's business growth,” says Calceta. Glenn added, “I’m thankful to our Owner/Operators for seeing our potential and recognizing the importance of this course. A huge thank you to McDonald’s for making MHU accessible to the far parts of the world including Guam and Saipan. I’m excited more than ever to be a part of brand McDonald’s and to ensure that we are not only training more, but training effectively.”

Hamburger University, established in 1961, was designed as a training facility used to provide classes in various aspects of restaurant management. The classes are available to restaurant managers, mid-managers, Owner/Operators and Franchisee Office Staff of McDonald’s. More than 80,000 people have graduated from the university. To date, McDonald’s of Guam and Saipan have sent 6 individuals from Guam and the Marianas Islands to attend courses at MHU in Chicago, including their son Joe Ayuyu Jr.

McDonald's of Saipan renews commitment to NMTI

by Admin | May 28, 2019 | Middle Road, Saipan |

PRESS RELEASE – In support of the Northern Marianas Trades Institute, McDonald’s of Saipan has donated $5,000 dollars in celebration of the institute’s 4th Annual Gala which will be held on July 26th at the Hyatt Regency Saipan. McDonald’s of Saipan Area Supervisor Joe Ayuyu Jr. presented the donation to the representatives of NMTI on Tuesday, May 28th at the McDonald’s Middle Road Restaurant. “We are proud to continue our support of the Northern Marianas Trades Institute. They provide technical training in areas like carpentry, plumbing, hospitality, culinary arts and more. Through their programs, they provide a unique learning experience for their students. Through this donation, we’re not only supporting the school, but we are also supporting all of its students in developing specialized skills that they can carry with them throughout their career,” says Ayuyu. McDonald’s and the Ayuyu family have been a strong supporter of NMTI since its first gala in 2016.

Frank Rabauliman, NMTI Director of Planning, Budget & Grants and Human Resources said “we are very blessed to have educational sponsors that actively engage us. Trades education continues to be challenging as it requires instructors that are skillful in teaching and not only in their respective professions. I firmly believe that our community is beginning to see the need for NMTI, thus the strong support from philanthropists like the Ayuyu family.”

McDonald’s of Saipan President and Owner/Operator Jose C. Ayuyu added, “as a local owning a business here on Saipan, we support the training and development of our local manpower so that our own people can contribute to the development of our community.” Since NMTI opened its doors in 2008, Ayuyu has recognized the importance of NMTI’s many program offerings, most notably, their Hotel & Restaurant Operation Program. “For our company, we need to recruit people that are trained in hospitality. Our hope is that we can continue to count on NMTI to provide graduates in their hospitality program. This is very important for businesses like ours that focus on hospitality and the customer experience.” The NMTI Gala will be held on July 26th at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Ballroom. To purchase tickets for the NMTI event, contact Ross Manglona at ross.nmticnmi@gmail.com. McDonald's of Saipan donates to RMHC Hawaii

by Admin | March 13, 2019 | Honolulu, HI |

PRESS RELEASE – In celebration of McDonald’s of Saipan’s 26th Anniversary, the company launched its anniversary weekend with a special charitable donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Charities – Hawaii. The Ronald McDonald House, which opened in 1987, is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to “provide a home-away-from-home for seriously ill children and their families and to develop programs and partnerships aimed at improving the lives of children in Hawaii and the Pacific”. In short, the Ronald McDonald House keeps families together when they need each other most so that they can do the most to nurture each other. The donation was presented at the RMHC Judd Hill House in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 13th by McDonald’s of Guam & Saipan Owner/Operators Jose and Marcia Ayuyu. Jerri Chong, President for RMHC-Hawaii, happily accepted the donation. “We are honored to receive this donation from McDonald’s of Saipan as they celebrate their 26th anniversary,” RMHC Hawaii President Jerri Chong said. “We have a long-standing relationship with Saipan and continue to help families from the island who need access to medical care on Oahu. RMHC Hawaii’s mission is to support seriously ill children and their families from not only Saipan, but Guam and other islands throughout the Pacific who need our services.” Over the years, the Ronald McDonald House has helped many families who have travelled from Guam and Saipan to Hawaii. “For those that have children that are seriously ill, sometimes we have to seek medical care in Hawaii or in the U.S. mainland. Medical expenses can add up quickly and RMHC understands that,” says Jose C. 2 McDonald's of Guam Managers attend Hamburger University

by Admin | Nov 1, 2018 | Tamuning, GU |

I have been in the company for 17 years, 15 years with the McDonald’s corporation and two years with JCA Guam, LLC. dba McDonald’s of Guam. I realized that customer service is what I loved to do so I considered McDonald’s as my career and my second Family. My Owner/Operator Joe Ayuyu has sent me to a lot classes to get certified in managing and developing people, customer service and growing the business. In October 2018, I was chosen to attend the "Leading Great Restaurants“ Class and earned a Bachelor of Hamburgerology Degree from Hamburger University in Chicago, Illinois. I was given a feedback from my classmates who said that I inspire them with my pride and passion for what I do in McDonald’s. During my week-long trip to Chicago, I enjoyed networking with General Managers from different countries. I learned more about effective coaching and training people and I believe that "THE ENGINE OF POSITIVE CHANGE IS PEOPLE“. With this mindset, we will be able to deliver a Hospitality culture to all our guests.

- Jingle Guzman, Department Manager
McDonald's of Harmon

I’m a Department Manager in McDonald’s of Guam Yigo location. I ‘ve been in the company for 10 years now (8 years with McDonald’s Corporation and 2 years in JCA Guam, LLC. dba McDonald’s of Guam). I started as a crew in 2008, and since then I enjoyed and remained loyal to our brand. In 2009 I was promoted as a shift manager, along with becoming a part of the Guest and People Department. I have attended many training classes like BSM, LTC, and DM Capstones. In 2013, I was promoted as a Department Manager I. I’m currently in charge of the Kitchen Department, controlling food cost, doing weekly IVA, and making sure that our restaurant delivers gold standard quality food and that our food is always served safe.
On October 21, 2018 I attended the MHU – McDonald’s Hamburger University in Chicago, Illinois. I successfully completed the “Leading Great Restaurant” Class and earned a degree of Bachelor of Hamburgerology. I also received an award for becoming the “Best Team” in our Class. Networking with other students in the class from different regions was what I enjoyed most from my experience at MHU. One of the most important things I learned and will apply to our restaurant is the “Hospitality Culture”- putting Customer first culture! I’d like to thank my Owner/Operator Joe Ayuyu for affording me this opportunity for further development of my management skills through attending classes at MHU
